Painting: A Masterpiece a Day

Calendar Feb 4, 2020 at 7:30 pm, runs for 6 weeks
From DaVinci’s classical style Mona Lisa to Andy Warhol’s Pop Art portraits and everything in between, learn and apply the painting techniques of the masters. Recreate a different masterpiece in each session, using modern art supplies. All works will be created on canvas or canvas board using acrylic paint. Materials needed: Brushes - variety of sizes, disposable pallet of paper, 5 pieces of 16" x 20" canvas, acrylic paint - phthalo blue, alizarin crimson, cad. yellow, titanium white, and burnt siena. This course is a cooperative offering of the Coastal Arts Guild of CT and Stratford Continuing Education.

You will learn some basic stitches i.e. single crochet, double crochet and half double crochet and will be well on your way to making a scarf by the end of the course. Materials needed: I hook (preferably metal) and 1 skein of light colored acrylic yarn.

Stained Glass (Beginner & Advanced

Love the old world charm of Tiffany stained glass? In this class beginners will learn the fundamentals of the Tiffany style while creating a beautiful panel of their own choice. We will cover types of glass, pattern-making, cutting techniques, soldering and framing. Intermediate and advanced students will challenge themselves to more complex patterns and improving their own techniques. There is a $10 fee for chemicals, and $25 fee for working board with aluminum frame and pins. Materials for the finished panel are not included. A list will be provided during the first class.

Drawing (Beginner)

This course is for those with little or no experience and will help you understand and build fundamental drawing skills. Weekly assignments for critiquing. Individual attention provided to each student. Students provide their own materials. A sketch pad pencils, and erasers are required. This course is a cooperative offering of the Coastal Arts Guild of CT and Stratford Continuing Education.

Knitting (Intermediate)

Students will be able to learn cable stitches, use circular needles, double pointed needles, etc. Students must have basic knowledge i.e. casting on, binding off, knit and purl stitches.

Beginner Quilting

Calendar Mar 12, 2020 at 6 pm, runs for 6 weeks

We will be making a Table Runner, learning to use the quilting tools for making this runner.  Students should have some knowledge of their sewing machine and it must be portable to bring to all the classes. Fabrics and other supplies need to be purchased after our discussion at the first class.  Also we will set up your machine and get it in good working order that night also well.  This is a great refresher class, if you have done some quilting before and would like to get back into quilting.

Knit 1 Purl 2

You will learn the basic knit and purl stitches, how to cast on two different ways and how to cast off and finish your project. New knitters need size 7 or 8 straight knitting needles and one skein of a light colored worsted weight or acrylic yarn.

Photography (Beginner/Int.)

In this class you will learn: composition, style, cropping and most importantly lighting. Specific topics covered will include: photographing children, pets, groups, landscapes, sports, travel and night photography. Any camera will work.
